The Cavalier baseball team will head to Oxford, Mississippi, for its first ever Super Regional. Virginia will face Ole Miss for the right to advance to the College World Series beginning on Friday.
Virginia enters the Super Regional with a record of 46-12-1, and won the Irvine Regional in three games. The Cavaliers took down San Diego State and came back to beat UC-Irvine twice. Virginia outscored regional opponents, 14-2, and held an ERA of 0.66 during the course of the three games.
Mississippi enters at 43-18, and just won its own Oxford Regional, but was pushed to the brink by third seeded Western Kentucky. The Rebels got by the Hilltoppers on Monday in the final game, 4-1. Drew Pomeranz tossed a complete game on the mound, giving up just two hits and no earned runs while striking out 16 batters.
The two teams will begin their Super Regional on Friday at 2:00pm eastern time, with game two taking place on Saturday at noon. If necessary, a deciding game three will be played on Sunday at 3:00pm. The winner of the three game set advances to Omaha, where the final eight teams still standing will meet for the College World Series.
