O'Connor Comes Home to Omaha

June 13, 2009

The Virginia baseball team's trip to Omaha for the College World Series is a homecoming for Head Coach Brian O'Connor. He used to work at one of the bars in Omaha, and he's still pretty popular there.

Following his time at Creighton University, O'Connor took a job at Barry O's Old Market Tavern in Omaha's market district, about two miles from Rosenblatt Stadium. Owner Barry O'Halloran says that O'Connor charmed most of the customers and his bartending skills were not his greatest strength. Brian was not the only O'Connor to hold down a job at Barry O's though, both his older brother John and his younger brother Kelly worked there as well.

O'Connor's jersey hangs inside the bar along with other Cavalier pennants and banners. O'Halloran says that many people in the area are rooting for Virginia because of O'Connor's Omaha ties.
