The ACC has asserted itself as one of the best conferences in the nation when it comes to men's soccer, with Virginia always a factor in the standings. It appears that George Gelnovatch and company are taking big steps towards keeping it that way in the future.
The Cavaliers' 2009 recruiting class is ranked number one in the ACC by TopDrawerSoccer.com. It ranks ahead of defending national champion Maryland, Wake Forest, Boston College, and Clemson. Those schools make up the top five in that order.
George Gelnovatch says that this class is "well-balanced from top to bottom in terms of attacking players, defensive players and a goalkeeper." The class features three forwards, two all-purpose players, and a goalie. Three of the players in the class hail from northern Virginia in Will Bates, Shane Cooke, and Sean Murnane. Marcus Douglas, Ahkeel Rodney, and Will Whorton make up the remainder of the group.
The class will suit up for the Cavaliers this fall.
