Matt Packer and Tyler Cannon were both selected in June's Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, and are both looking to come closer to a decision. Both have the option of either turning pro or returning to Virginia for their senior seasons.
Packer was drafted in the 32nd round by the Cleveland Indians. He was 3-5 this season with a 4.13 ERA. He started four games, recorded three saves, and recorded 59 strikeouts to 25 walks.
Cannon was selected in the 41st round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He hit .351 this season, good enough for third on the team, and was 17 for 19 in stolen base attempts. Cannon also scored 53 runs during the year.
The two have until August 15th to either sign with their teams or return to school. We'll keep you updated on their decisions.
