Michael Shabaz knows a little something about doubles play. He and his partner at UVa, Dominic Inglot won the NCAA doubles title last season. But on Wednesday, Shabaz took his doubles play to a much higher level and was on the court with three players ranked in the top 100.
His partner Wayne Odesnik is the 86th ranked player in the world and joined Shabaz as a wild card draw in the tournament, only to be taken out in straights sets, 6-3 6-4, by John Isner and Sam Querrey.
Former Cavalier Somdev Devvarman is still in the mix at the Open. His first round victory earns him a match on Thursday. Devvarman will face world number 23 Philipp Kohlschreiber.
