It marked week two of Friday Night EndZone, as many area teams took the field for action. The schedule was headlined by our game of the week between Albemarle and Monticello.
The Patriots drew first blood, as Jordon Hill scored on a screen pass to put Albemarle up 7-0, but the Mustangs had an answer. C.J. Page rushed in from 12 yards out to tie the game, and Tyler Moneymaker hit Thomas Estepp for a 33 yard strike to put the Mustangs up by a touchdown. E.J. Johnson had two interceptions on defense to stop Patriot threats, and Page added another score, while Moneymaker rushed for a TD as well. Page finished with 151 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Moneymaker threw for 156 yards. The Mustangs improve to 1-0, while the Patriots fall to 0-1.
Charlottesville traveled to R.E. Lee tonight, and ran into a tough Leemen team. The Knights fell, 36-14. They'll head up to James Monroe to face the defending state champions next Friday.
Western Albemarle put up another strong performance, topping Turner Ashby, 23-9. The Warriors improve to 2-0, and have outscored opponents 72-9 in their first two games.
Louisa jumped out to a 14-0 lead on Eastern View, and held off the Cyclones, 23-21. The Lions earned the win on a last second field goal.
Madison and Fluvanna met on the Mountaineers home field, with the game needing three overtime periods to settle. Madison ended up taking the contest, 26-23. The Flucos fall to 1-1 on the year, while the Mountaineers win their first game of the season.
Orange traveled to Chancellor and returned on the losing end of a 45-14 loss. The Hornets will travel to Culpeper next Friday.
William Monroe had similar luck at Spotswood, falling to the Blazers, 49-14. The Dragons will host Madison in their second game of the season next Friday night.
Buckingham improved to 2-0 on the season, topping Nelson, 14-0. The Knights will host Buckingham next week, while Nelson will welcome Riverheads.
In the private circuit, Fork Union opened its season on a great note, topping Norfolk Academy, 40-0.
