The athletic logo of Virginia Tech was discovered on the hardwood court at John Paul Jones Arena on Tuesday. The marking was first seen by ABC16 sports reporter J.W. Stehle.
The "VT" logo appears to have been carved on the corner of the basketball court. University officials say the marking will be removed. The "VT" carving was done with some precision as the lines were very straight.
The gloss finish on the hardwood court is over top of the carving, thus making one think it was done prior to the court ever coming to John Paul Jones Arena. It is believed that the carving has been on the hardwood floor the entire season.
This is not the first time a VT prank has been pulled in Charlottesville. The night before the Virginia Tech-Virginia football game in November of 2005, the VT logo was spray painted on the 50 yard line at Scott Stadium. It was removed in time for the start of the game.
