On the high school gridiron, the Friday Night Endzone Game of the Week has championship implications. The Western Albemarle Warriors (9-0, 6-0) and Goochland Bulldogs (8-1, 5-1) clash in the biggest game of the year in the Jefferson District. The central Virginia foes will battle for the JD title Friday night in Goochland.

WAHS is assured at least a share of the crown, as the two teams will split the championship with a Bulldog victory. If the Warriors win, they will take the Jefferson District title outright and clinch a perfect regular season.

Goochland's only blemish came back in September, a 23-6 loss to Charlottesville High School. The Warriors beat the Black Knights two weeks later, 27-13.

Friday's game kicks off at 7:30pm in Goochland. We'll have Friday Night Endzone crews on the sidelines to bring you all of the action.

Ed-
I get what you are saying. They are both 7-1 in the district and 9-1 overall, but for the purpose of the power rankings, WAHS is 9-1 and Goochland is 8-1.

The best I can explain it is when a BCS college football team plays a Division I-AA school. The win is a win, but it does not count towards their bowl eligibility because it was not a Division I school.

I think that happened in Goochland's case. My guess is the win over Benedictine is a win and they are 9-1. But in the eyes of the VHSL, they are 8-1 because Benedictine is a private school. Thus, you have the lower ranking than WAHS.

Which games don't count? All games count. Each team plays seven district games. Goochland and WAHS both are 7-1 in the district. So Techeically Tarrance & AC we do have the same record. Terrance is right. Looking at the VHSL website, Goochland is only 8-1. They did not get credit for the week 2 win over Benedictine. Maybe because it was against a private school?
