The Virginia field hockey team was trying to accomplish something they have never done before on Sunday afternoon. Win an ACC championship. A victory would be especially sweet with the tournament venue being their home field.

The dream looked to come true early on. In the first half, Charlotte van den Broek and Tara Puffenberger contributed two goals off short corner which gave the Cavaliers a commanding 2-0 lead at the half.

After the break was a different story. With under 15 minutes to go in regulation, the Terrapins scored two unanswered goals and sent the game into overtime.

From there it didn't take long. Megan Frazer tapped in a shot from Emma Thomas to secure a Maryland victory and leave their perfect record unblemished.

The Cavs season is not over. They await an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament which will be announced next Tuesday.
