In last year's ACC championship game, the Cavaliers stumbled 1-0 to eventual champion Maryland. This time, the Cavs are set to take on the defending champs in this year's first round. Fifth seeded Virginia will take the field Wednesday at noon in Cary, North Carolina.
The Cavaliers enter Wednesday's game on an eight game unbeaten streak. They are led by ACC All-freshmen team member Will Bates. For the season he has scored seven goals and assisted on another. Defensively, Virginia boasts the third best goals against average in the country with a mark of 0.39.
Maryland, meanwhile, is paced by striker Jason Herrick and anchored by first team All-ACC keeper, Zac MacMath.
The winner will advance to the second round to face the winner of the Wake Forest / Clemson game.
