The high school football season has concluded for many of our area teams and the Jefferson District handed out its postseason awards on Tuesday. Western Albemarle is one of two teams still in the hunt for a state championship and several Warriors earned some pretty big honors.
Western quarterback Stephen Schuler earns Jefferson District Offensive Player of the Year, while the Warriors Mitchell Parks took home defensive honors. The Warriors are currently 10-1 on the year and will take on Park View on Friday night in the Region II semifinals.
Goochland's Joe Fowler is your Jefferson District Division 3 Coach of the Year. Fowler's Bulldogs are also 10-1 and will face Handley in the other Region II semifinal. That game kicks off on Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
Mark Fischer of Louisa is the Jefferson District Division 4 Coach of the Year. Fischer's Lions finished the season 7-4 and made it back to the playoffs for the first time in 2006. They fell to Liberty Bealeton last Friday night.
