Mike Mitchell went 4-5 with three stolen bases as the Cavalier baseball team rolled past Richmond, 12-5. It marks the second time this season that Virginia has topped the Spiders, as they knocked off their in-state rivals back on March 20, 11-1.
Mitchell had his big game while wearing number 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson. Several Major League players honored the late star on Sunday during the 60th anniversary of the breaking of the color barrier by Robinson.
Brandon Guyer went 2-3 to extend his career-high hitting streak to 25. Guyer is batting .443 during that streak, and added an RBI tonight. Greg Miclat also hit the record books, breaking the single season stolen base record by a Virginia player. Miclat stole two bases tonight, putting his total at 27 for the season.
The Cavaliers are now 6-0 against Richmond with Brian O'Connor as their head coach. They will look to continue their success in a crucial series at Clemson this weekend. Click on the above video link to see highlights, and hear from head coach Brian O'Connor.
