Cavalier Center Fielder Mike Mitchell typically wears number five on the back of his jersey, but the senior sported a different look in last night's game. Mitchell wore number 42 to honor the late Jackie Robinson.
Major League Baseball clubs honored Robinson on Sunday by wearing the number 42 jerseys, marking the 60th anniversary of Robinson's breaking of the league's color barrier. Cavaliers Head Coach Brian O'Connor said that he was going to offer the number to Mitchell for Sunday's contest against Georgia Tech, but the game was rained out.
Mitchell put up Robinson-like numbers, going 4-5 at the plate, stealing three bases, and adding a run.
