After a lengthy and exhaustive search, Florida coach Billy Donovan has hired Virginia assistant Rob Lanier to replace Donnie Jones.

According to sources close to the Florida program, Lanier accepted the job on Tuesday after taking a visit to Gainesville with his wife on Monday.

After helping lead the Gators to consecutive national titles, Jones left more than six weeks ago to become the head coach at Marshall University.

Lanier has spent the past two years under Dave Leitao at Virginia. The Cavaliers finished last season 21-11, reached the second round of the NCAA tournament and tied for the ACC regular-season title.

Prior to his stint in Charlottesville, Lanier was 58-70 in four seasons as the head coach at Siena.

Lanier was also an assistant at Texas (1999-2001), Rutgers (1997-99) and St. Bonaventure (1992-97).
