Brandon Guyer hit his eighth home run of the season, and Sean Doolittle picked up his eighth win of the year, as the Cavalier Baseball Team topped Lafayette in the first game of the NCAA Regional Tournament, 5-1.
Doolittle pitched seven and two-thirds strong innings, giving up only one earned run and striking out six. It was Doolittle's longest outing of the season. He didn't give up the lone run until the eighth inning.
As for the Cavalier offense, it jumped on the Leopards early. Guyer's home run came in the first with two men on, and Beau Seabury followed that up with an RBI double, giving Virginia a 4-0 lead after one inning of play. The Wahoos tacked on another one in the fourth on a Brandon Marsh single. Marsh finished the day 4-4 with an RBI.
The Cavaliers will face Oregon State tomorrow night at 6:00pm. The Beavers topped Rutgers, 5-1, in game two action tonight.
