Friday night's NCAA quarterfinal match-up with Maryland could not have started any better for Virginia. Neil Barlow netted an improbable goal from the near sideline within the games first five minutes.
The Cavs never looked back. After a 1-0 score at halftime, freshman Will Bates netted his 12th goal of the season on a header sent from Barlow, and Jordan Evans notched his first goal of the season on a nice leave from Tony Tchani.
Goal keeper Diego Restrepo went another 90 minutes without allowing a goal. His scoreless streak now lasts a 1,107 minutes at 34 seconds, 11 straight games without allowing a goal.
Virginia now awaits the winner of the Wake Forest/UCLA quarterfinal match up.
The college cup kicks off on Friday in Cary, N.C. Game times have yet to be set.
