The Virginia men's soccer team will face a familiar foe in the NCAA semifinals.
The Cavaliers will take on ACC rival Wake Forest for the right to play in the NCAA Championship game. Kickoff is set for 5 pm Friday December 11th in Cary, North Carolina.
Virginia defeated Maryland 3-0 in the NCAA quarterfinals Friday night at Klockner Stadium. It was the 11th consecutive shutout for Virginia goalkeeper Diego Restrepo, who has not allowed a goal since October 17th. It is Virginia's first trip to the College Cup since 2006 and the third under head coach George Gelnovatch. Wake Forest shut out UCLA 2-0 in its NCAA quarterfinal game Saturday night.
Virginia and Wake Forest met twice this season with Virginia coming out on top in both meetings. The Cavaliers beat the Demon Deacons 1-0 in Winston-Salem, NC back on September 18th during the regular season. The two also met during the ACC tournament semifinals. The game ended up going to double overtime and Virginia won 5-4 in a shootout.
