Virginia knew they had their hands full on Sunday afternoon, but they had no idea it would be as difficult as it was. JMU stand out Dawn Evans matched her career high of 38 points as the Dukes edged the Cavs 75-73.
The Cavaliers started the game as planned, going on an 8-2 run early in the first half. In the following minutes, the Dukes got their feet under them and held a five point advantage after the break. In the second half a Telia McCall three pointer put the Cavs on top, but they could not hold the lead, even with 31 points from Cavs star Monica Wright, who with two seconds left, missed a desperation three pointer at the buzzer as Virginia fell 75-73 to JMU.
The Cavs fall to 6-2 on the year and the Dukes improve to 6-0. Virginia is back in action on Tuesday, as the Cavs host Furman at 7 p.m.
