New University of Virginia football coach Mike London tells CBS19 this is "a day of I've always dreamed about, and now it's finally here".
London answered questions from CBS19 Sports Director Marc Davis in his first interview since accepting the job.
London was the head coach at the University of Richmond and a former Cavalier assistant coach.
London made a strong pitch to Cavalier fans. Declining attendance was one of the factors in the dismissal of former coach Al Groh.
"I can't wait to talk to the Wahoo faithful; the fans out there," London told Marc Davis. He said he has "tremendous respect" for Groh but "looks forward to bringing the fans back."
London said he has an "affinity" for universities with strong academics and understands how difficult it is for football players on grounds since his daughter played basketball at the University of Virginia.
London called the UVa job "a great fit for me."
