After a 12 day break for final exams the Cavalier men's basketball team resumes its game schedule on Saturday when Virginia hosts UNC-Wilmington at John Paul Jones Arena. Tip off is set for 7:00.
Tony Bennett had his team working hard during the break. Virginia worked on blocking out and rebounding and playing better defense. Bennett says that he would like to see his team sustain better on defense and not have as many breakdowns. Offensively the Cavs are hoping to have better shot selection on a consistent basis.
Virginia has sat on a one point heartbreaking loss at Auburn back on December 7. Sylven Landesberg scored 20 points in the loss. The Tigers scored the winning basket with 1.4 seconds to play and Virginia failed to get a shot off before the buzzer. That dropped the Cavaliers' record to 4-4 as Virginia has dropped three of its last four games.
UNC-Wilmington enters with a 4-6 record but is a much better team than that mark indicates. The Seahawks beat Penn State earlier this season and played Wake Forest close this past Wednesday night. Ben Tomko enters leading Wilmington in scoring, averaging 15.9 points per game.
Despite the winter weather, Virginia released a press release on Friday stating the game was still scheduled and would not be postponed as of Friday. The contest will tip off as long as both teams and two of the three officials can get to the game.
