The suspension of University of Virginia basketball player Sylven Landesberg was a tough pill for many UVa fans to swallow, but Monday night, they had an opportunity to talk one-on-one with coach Tony Bennett to learn more about his decision.

Coach's Corner is a weekly show broadcast live by radio station WINA and gives fans an opportunity to ask questions in person or via e-mail. Gail Kitch attended the broadcast Monday night and recalled Coach Bennett's words in regard to ending Landesberg's season early.

"There was absolutely no one who is above a certain set of expectations and I think that's imperative to hold on to," said Kitch.

Monday night, Kitch and many others commended the tough call.

"I think that's a certain kind of honor and a certain kind of commitment to your teammates that I like in him. I think will undergird long term success of the team," said Kitch.

UVa Alum Brian Shallenberger also claimed a table at Chili's Monday night to listen in on the coach. Shallenberger attended UVa in 1976 when the school won its sole ACC Tournament championship and says he understands Landesberg's academic struggles.

"UVa is a very good school academically, and I'm not going to pass judgment," said Shallenberger.

Shallenberger told CBS19 that the decision to suspend Landesberg is a wake up call for the players and for the fans, calling it a lesson in what the Cavalier team is all about.

"It's about passion it's about integrity, and Sylven is a fine young man. I'm sure he'll rise to meet this. I hope we do see a lot of him next year," said Shallenberger.

For now, the fans are hoping the team play the way they did on Saturday against Maryland, without Landesberg.
"I think it's a chance for some really coming into their own. A chance to show us what they have with all their heart," said Kitch.

"They have what they need when they need it, if they only feel it inside. That's what we're trying to do encourage them to not give up and just keep going," said Steve Moller.
