After losing the chance for a three game sweep last weekend at Florida State, the Cavaliers were determined to not let that chance slip away on Sunday. Virginia took out their frustrations with an 11-1 win over Boston College and completing a sweep in the Cavs first ACC home series of the year.
Virginia made no doubt who was in control early on. Jarrett Parker kick started the Cavalier offense with a bases loaded triple off the right-center field wall which cleared the bases and gave the Hoos a 3-0 lead. Tyler Cannon did the favor of knocking in Parker with a single as Virginia took a 4-0 lead after the first inning.
From there the Cavs cruised, and used a 2-4 4 RBI performance from Dan Grovatt and a 2-3 2 RBI performance from Phil Gosselin to add seven more runs in the victory. Cody Winiarski kept the stellar pitching performance train going with six strong innings on the mound with three strike outs and only one earned run.
Virginia also played in front of it’s biggest weekend crowd ever at Klockner Stadium, as 9,642 fans watched the Hoos this weekend.
The Cavaliers are back in action on Tuesday, as they host the Marshall Thundering Herd at Davenport Field.
