Mixed martial arts has taken the country by storm in recent years, and has effected people at every age. Christian Whitehead is a senior at Monticello High School, and because of his interest in the sports, made the switch from basketball to wrestling this year.
Coach Tom Sutliff couldn't be any happier. Christian's abilities have flourished in just one season and was an outspoken leader on the team. "He took to wrestling like a fish to water," Sutliff said.
Aside from his interest in MMA, Christian's brother Chandler has prompted the switch as well. Chandler has down's syndrome and his close relationship with Christian allows him to have more confidence to pursue dreams and reach goals no one else would think of accomplishing.
Christian plans to attend either James Madison University of Virginia Tech next fall to further his education.
