Agee to Play for Staples at VES

Opposing defenses in the Jefferson District will no longer have to worry about shutting down Fluvanna County's Vinny Agee.

Agee will attend Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg this upcoming school year, where he will reclassify for the class of 2016. By reclassifying, Agee will be able to play three more seasons before graduating.

"It's a great opportunity. I don't want to waste it," Agee said on Tuesday. "I want to be pushed academically, physically, and mentally. Especially in the classroom, because without the classroom you can't go to college."

Agee was the Jefferson District player of the year as a sophomore in 2012-13, averaging a league-high 18.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Flucos.

At VES, Agee will play for former University of Virginia star Curtis Staples, who is entering his fourth season as coach of the Bishops.

"We expect for him to make an impact right away on our team," Staples said via email on Tuesday. "He can pretty much play three positions. So that will make him very attractive to mid- to high-major Division I college programs."

And for Agee, college basketball has always been the goal.

"It would mean the world," he said. "Growing up, I always told my parents that I'm going to college, and they always said, "Well, you have to work hard to go to college." So to go to college and finally to fulfill my dream, it would be great."

Longwood recently became the first college basketball program to contact Agee. He hopes playing for the Bishops will attract more attention from Division I programs.

"I think it will help me get noticed a lot, because the coach is Coach Staples down there. He played at UVA, and he has a lot of coach connections," Agee said.

Agee also admitted it was tough to make the decision to leave Fluvanna.

"I'm really excited," he said. "But coming back to my home town to play Miller or Blue Ridge or Covenant, or something like that, it's good to kind of bring back memories."
