Albemarle Post 74 Wins First Game of Southeast Regional

Albemarle Post 74 carried the momentum it gained during the State Tournament right into its first game at the Southeast Regional.

Post 74 beat the team from Jacksonville, Fla., 5-1, Thursday afternoon to advance to the winners bracket.

Austin Turner picked up the win on the mound, tossing 7.1 innings with eight strikeouts. Jordan Gentry picked up the save .

Keegan Woolford went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Lonnie Dillard also had a pair of hits and scored a pair of runs and Jeff Early had two hits with a double and run scored.

Post 74 advanced to the double-elimination Southeast Regional tournament with a perfect 4-0 run to win the state Legion title last week. Albemarle outscored its opponents 51-5 in that tournament, capped by Friday's 12-1 win over Danville Post 325 to clinch the team's first-ever state title.
