After going unselected in last week's Major League Soccer SuperDraft, Virginia senior Will Bates didn't have to wait long to have his name come off the board in Tuesday's supplemental draft.
Bates was the fifth overall selection in the supplemental draft, taken by the Seattle Sounders. Bates is the 44th Virginia player to move on to play soccer in MLS.
The supplemental draft is basically an extension of Thursday's two-round SuperDraft. Bates was expected to be taken last week, after he was among the players invited to the MLS pre-draft combine earlier this month.
Bates was a two-time All-ACC selection at Virginia, including in 2012, when he finished second in the league with 12 goals, and third with 25 total points. Bates leaves Virginia ranked seventh all-time with 46 goals, and his 102 total points are ninth in school history.
