Big Day from Cockerton in UVa Lacrosse Win

Mark Cockerton exploded for a career-high seven goals, leading unbeaten Virginia to a 14-6 win at Mount Saint Mary's on Tuesday afternoon.

Cockerton scored four of his seven goals as part of a 5-0 UVa run in the second quarter, as the Cavaliers put the game out of reach. With the win, UVa will enter Saturday's ACC opener against Syracuse at Klöckner Stadium at 5-0.

Cockerton's previous career high was six goals, a mark he hit three times last season. Following Tuesday's performance, he now leads UVa with 18 goals on the season.

James Pannell and Owen Van Arsdale each had two goals apiece for the Cavaliers. Van Arsdale and Rob Emery each finished with two assists.

The Mountaineers fell to 0-4 with the loss.
