Brookville's Woody Taking Over Mustangs

Brookville High School athletic director Larry Kidd has confirmed that the school's football coach, Jeff Woody, has resigned to take the same position at Monticello High School.

Woody -- who has coached the Bees to back-to-back state championships -- resigned on Wednesday, and broke the news to his players on Thursday, Kidd said. Monticello has a 3 p.m. news conference scheduled for Friday to introduce its new coach.

WSET in Lynchburg was the first to report Woody's departure on Thursday.

Woody went 81-22 in eight years as head coach of the Bees, including a 28-game winning streak over the past two seasons. Brookville also reached the state title game under Woody in 2008.

Woody takes over at Monticello for Rodney Redd, who left earlier this year for a position on Latrell Scott's staff at Virginia State. The Mustangs won 19 games and reached the playoffs in both of Redd's seasons as head coach.

Woody will be the third football coach in Monticello school history.
