Buckingham County is the only local team to crack the top 10 in any of the three initial state high school football polls released Monday by the Associated Press.
The 3-0 Knights are No. 7 in the Group A poll. Buckingham, coming off last Friday's 56-26 win at home over Fluvanna, travels to Amelia County this week for the James River District opener for both teams.
A pair of 3-0 Jefferson District teams -- Monticello (four points) and Western Albemarle (one point) -- both received votes in the initial Group AA poll. The Warriors travel to Spotswood for a non-district game on Friday, while Monticello will visit Louisa Co. in the first Jefferson District game of the season.
