Michael Rocco threw for 311 yards and a touchdown and Virginia beat Richmond 43-19 as the Cavaliers won their season opener Saturday.
Richmond's Danny Rocco, the uncle of UVa quarterback Michael Rocco, made his debut as the Spiders head coach in the losing effort.
The younger Rocco completed 25 of 37 passes and added a 51 yard touchdown pass to sophomore Darius Jennings.
Three running backs scored for the Cavaliers. Kevin Parks ran for two touchdowns, Perry Jones ran for another, and Khalek Shepherd had the final Virginia touchdown of the day, a 1 yard run with 6:44 left in the 4th quarter.
Alabama transfer Phillip Sims came into the game in the fourth quarter and completed 5 of 6 passes.
