Cavaliers Fall Short Against Yellow Jackets

Despite a career-high 376 passing yards from sophomore quarterback David Watford, the Virginia football team fell 35-25 to Georgia Tech at Scott Stadium on Saturday.

Darius Jennings had 13 catches for 119 yards and Tim Smith had 10 receptions for 151 yards.

The Cavaliers never led in the game, but cut the Yellow Jackets' lead to 21-17 with 14:45 left in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Watford to Jennings. Georgia Tech then pushed the lead back to 11 on a 65-yard touchdown run by Robert Godhigh.

With 3:23 remaining in the game, UVa pulled back within a field goal after Watford connected with Jennings again, this time for a 12-yard score. The Yellow Jackets sealed the win when David Sims ran 29 yards for a touchdown with 1:55 to play.

The Cavaliers have now lost five games in a row, and fall to 2-6 on the season and 0-4 in the ACC.

Zach Laskey and Sims each had two touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets in the win. Godhigh also added a rushing touchdown for Georgia Tech, who improved to 5-3 on the season and 4-2 in the ACC.
