In a season where wins have been hard to come by, the Virginia softball team finished their home schedule with a pair of them on Wednesday.
UVa swept a double-header at The Park Wednesday afternoon against Liberty -- beating the Flames 3-1 in the opener then putting up a season-high run total in a 13-3 five-inning win in the second game.
The Cavaliers improved to 8-40 on the season with the two wins, with six of those eight victories coming at home. UVa also snapped an eight-game losing streak by winning the opener.
Lindsay Mayer led the Cavaliers' offensive explosion in Game 2, going 3-for-3 at the plate -- including a two-run double and a three-run homer in the fifth inning. That home run ended the game, as the Cavaliers put up six in the inning to clinch the win.
Iyana Hughes scored three times for UVa in the second game, and also added two hits and two RBI. Megan Harris went 1-for-3, with a two-run double in the first inning.
Aimee Chapdelaine gave up four runs on 13 hits over the course of the two games, earning the win in each outing.
UVa wraps up the regular season with a three-game series at Boston College, starting with a double-header on Saturday. The Cavaliers have lost their last 21 consecutive ACC games.
