The Virginia women got a clutch free throw from Ataira Franklin followed by a big stop on the defensive end to escape Liberty with a 61-60 win Tuesday night.
Franlkin went 1-for-2 from the line with about 12 seconds to play to put the Cavaliers in front for good. The Flames never got off a potential game-winning shot at the other end.
The Cavaliers have now won three straight since opening the season with a loss at James Madison. Liberty fell to 0-3 with the loss.
Franklin and freshman Sydney Umeri each finished with 12 points to lead Virginia in scoring. Sarah Imovbioh finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds, giving her double-doubles in all three UVa wins.
Freshman guard Mickayla Sanders finished with a game-high 16 points for Liberty.
