Cavs Handle Harvard, Improve to 9-0

Freshman Brandon Waddell wasn't quite as dominant for the Virginia baseball team on Friday as his last time out -- but the Cavaliers didn't need him to be.

Waddell gave up just three hits and struck out seven in six shutout innings, as the Cavaliers beat Harvard 3-0. Waddell improved to 2-0 on the season, with a 0.54 ERA and 27 strikeouts in three starts.

Virginia's starting pitchers have now pitched 40 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings, and the 9-0 Cavaliers have shut out their opponents in four of their last five games.

Junior Austin Young and freshman Josh Sborz combined for three scoreless innings in relief of Waddell, with Sborz picking up his second save of the season.

The Cavaliers managed just five hits, with Nick Howard's RBI triple in the fourth being their biggest highlight at the plate. Joe McCarthy and Reed Gragnani drove in Virginia's other two runs with sacrifice flies.
