Cavs Look Ahead to Future After Historic Season

After one of the most successful seasons in Virginia men's basketball history, the Cavaliers will lose three seniors including starters Joe Harris and Akil Mitchell. The rest of the roster remains intact, as UVa will bring back three starters, in rising sophomore point guard London Perrantes, rising junior guard Malcolm Brogdon, and rising junior center Mike Tobey.

"They've got to know that the sky's the limit for them," said Mitchell. "Hopefully I've left an example of what it takes to win in this program, and we've left an example, this team this year, have lived up to that same example."

Head coach Tony Bennett says next year's team will have "big shoes to fill, but I think they have established this program and I think it's going in the right way."

In 2013-2014, UVa tied the school record for most wins in a season with 30, in addition to winning their second-ever outright ACC regular season title and their first ACC Tournament title in nearly four decades. Their season was cut short in the Sweet 16 after losing to Michigan State, but the Cavaliers say the lasting memory of the season will be how close they've grown as a team.

"Regardless of if we didn't achieve our goals this year, we're brothers and we love each other," said rising junior forward Anthony Gill. "Regardless of what happens, we're always going to love each other, we're always going to be there for one other. I think that's what we'll remember most."

"I think it's just the camaraderie we have as a team," Brogdon added. "I think more than anything, any team in the country, we have some of the best camaraderie. We just love each other, we enjoy being around each other a lot, and I think that's what's gotten us so far."
