The 2013 season is the fourteenth that the Virginia women's soccer team has made the NCAA Tournament under head coach Steve Swanson. In that time, the Cavaliers have been to the national quarterfinals three times, but they have not made it to the College Cup.

"That would be everything to us," senior defender Morgan Stith says of the possibility of reaching the NCAA's final four. "We've just been working so hard since this past spring since, we went to England and we have this thing in our locker room saying what all of our goals are. And I think just to get to the College Cup, or not only just to get there but to win it would just be everything, not just to us but to the program."

The 'Hoos are one win away from reaching the Cup, with only Michigan standing in their way. The Wolverines are ranked as high as No. 11 in the country, and coming off a win over another ACC opponent, Notre Dame.

"Anybody that gets to this point, they have to be a good team," Swanson says of the Cavaliers' next opponent. "They have to be organized defensively, which they are, and they have to be able to score goals, which they've done. I know Greg quite well, their coach. I actually played with him way back when, and he's pretty meticulous, very disciplined."

UVa and Michigan will face off in the quarterfinals Friday at 7 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium, where the Cavaliers are a perfect 16-0 this year, including a 3-0 record in the NCAA Tournament so far.

In Swanson's coaching career, he has led teams to the tournament 18 total times, but he is still seeking his first appearance in the College Cup.

"I think we're just concentrating really so much on the University of Michigan and this next game, and then we'll see what happens after that," he said Tuesday. "Hopefully we can talk about these things once this game is over. This is obviously the biggest game of the year for us right now and we're trying to prepare for that as best we can."
