The Virginia men's soccer team returns all but one starter from last year's NCAA Tournament team, and is adding one of the top recruiting classes in the country.
But in what looks like another year of competitive soccer in the ACC, that's only good enough for fifth in the league's preseason coaches poll, which was released on Wednesday.
Maryland was voted the league's preseason favorite, receiving 10 of 12 first-place votes in the poll. North Carolina, Wake Forest, and ACC newcomer Notre Dame finished 2-4, followed by the Cavaliers.
UVa used a lineup littered with a half-dozen freshmen in 2012, but still finished 10-7-4 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Ten of last year's 11 starters return in 2013 -- including ACC All-Freshman selections Darius Madison, Marcus Salandy-Defour, and Todd Wharton -- though the Cavaliers must replace leading scorer Will Bates.
