Cavs Stay Hot in Recruiting, Land Pair of LBs

Mike London had a big smile on his face as he weaved through the lines of Virginia football players stretching before the start of Tuesday's practice at the McCue Center.

London got two good reasons to grin in the hours prior to Tuesday's practice, with the addition of two more recruits to UVa's class for next season. The Cavaliers got verbal commitments from a pair of linebackers -- Jahvoni Simmons of Virginia Beach, and Kareem McDonald of Washington, D.C.

With those two commitments, UVa now has 17 players in its recruiting class for 2015. Eight of those commitments have come since early July; five in the past week.

London was asked about his team's continued success on the recruiting trail before Tuesday's practice.

"Well, it's about the program," he explained. "It's about the message that the university has, when a young man, or young people that are interested in getting a great degree. Interested in playing good football in the ACC. And the staff that we have here."

"It's about the players," London added. "The players are the ones that get these young men that are out there to say I want to come. And that's a tribute to the players."

With his commitment, Simmons becomes the most highly-regarded prospect in UVa's latest class. Both and rate the Ocean Lakes High School product as a four-star recruit, and one of the top five inside linebackers in the country. Both recruiting sites also rank Simmons among the top 10 prospects in the state.

McDonald is rated as a three-star outside linebacker by 247Sports, and a two-star outside linebacker by Rivals.
