Virginia coach Brian O'Connor and his assistants were among the people trying to clean off the snow- and puddle-covered tarp at Davenport Field on Monday afternoon.
O'Connors Cavaliers were schedule to host William & Mary on Tuesday afternoon. But Sunday's snowfall forced Virginia to push its home opener back a day.
"This can happen," O'Connor said. "We've been so fortunate to have great weather here in the preseason. We're dealing with it. Fortunately we have warm weather over the next couple of days, and we're going to move our home opener game against William & Mary to Wednesday."
Fourteen of the next 15 games on the Virginia schedule over the next three weeks -- including the next nine in a row -- are at Davenport Field. And the only road trip is a short bus ride to Harrisonburg to visit James Madison on March 6.
"Playing at home is a big advantage," said O'Connor, whose team went 1-1-1 in Myrtle Beach last weekend. "Our new players, they've practiced on this field for the last five months. And we have our fans here playing at home. And hopefully it's an advantage for us."
