Charlottesville Native Allen Selected to Virginia Sports Hall of Fame

Charlottesville native Franklin Allen has been selected to the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2013. Allen played at Roanoke College and is considered to be one of the top college basketball players in Virginia history.

Allen played at Roanoke College from 1967-1971. He was also the first African-American student to attend the school. Allen became the all-time leader in points (2,780) and rebounds (1,758) at all NCAA levels in Virginia.

Allen averaged 24 points per game and 15.2 rebounds per game in his career as a Maroon, and was the first basketball player to ever be named to the All-state team all four years.

The class of 2013 also includes Cornell Brown, Lawrence Burton, Dean Ehlers, Robert Pratt, Bill Roth, and Dick Tarrant. The induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel & Waterfront Conference Center as the headline event of Hall of Fame weekend.
