ESPN Draft Analysts Make Note of Moses

Next spring will mark five years since Virginia had a player taken in the first round of the NFL Draft.

But according to ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay, offensive tackle Morgan Moses could end that drought come May.

"(Moses) could end up being one of the surprises of this year's draft and sneak into the late first round," McShay said Wednesday, when he included Moses on his latest list of the top 32 prospects for the 2014 NFL Draft.

McShay wasn't the only ESPN analyst to give Moses some attention Thursday, either. Mel Kiper, Jr., ranked the 6-6, 332-lb. Moses as the No. 6 senior offensive tackle prospect in next year's draft pool in his updated ranking of prospects by position.

"Prototypical size and length and has the mobility for left tackle, but could impose his will physically a little better," Kiper said.

McShay ranked Moses 25th on his list of the top 32 prospects. He pointed to Moses' recent performances against Clemson and Georgia Tech, along with his physical abilities, as reasons why Moses is climbing those rankings.

"He needs to be more consistent with his balance and more efficient as a run-blocker, but he has improved in both areas recently, which is a positive sign," McShay said.

Offensive tackle Eugene Monroe was the last UVa product to be selected in Round 1 of the NFL Draft, by the Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2009. Monroe is one of six offensive linemen from Virginia to be drafted over the past 10 drafts, including fellow first-rounders D'Brickashaw Ferguson (Jets, 2006) and Branden Albert (Chiefs, 2008).
