A person familiar with the negotiations says the Cleveland Indians have agreed to a one-year contract with free-agent slugger Mark Reynolds.
The person spoke Sunday night on condition of anonymity because the agreement is pending a physical.
The Indians have been in the market for a veteran first baseman. They spoke with Reynolds' agent at the winter meetings last week in Nashville, Tenn. They also have shown interest in Kevin Youkilis, who is weighing an offer from the New York Yankees.
The 28-year-old Reynolds batted .221 with 23 homers and 69 RBIs in 135 games for Baltimore in 2012. He has 181 career homers in six seasons in the majors.
Cleveland needs some power in its lineup. Carlos Santana led the Indians with 18 homers last season.
