Fischer Back, Lions "Back in Business"

When the clock struck midnight on Thursday, the Louisa County football team began what they hope is a return to their winnings ways. The Lions held their traditional midnight madness football practice, kicking off the 2014 camp season.

"We as a team were hype in the gym," senior tight end and linebacker Brian Townes Jr. said of the teams' energy at their first practice. "We got here at 9 o'clock, just waiting around, trying to get ready. It feels great to be out here again."

"Everybody's positive, everybody's hype," added senior running back and linebacker Demetrius Washington. "Everybody's getting pumped up. Everybody's just living live. It's great."

The most obvious change for the Lions this season is at the head coaching position, with Mark Fischer returning after leaving Louisa in 2011. Fischer went 58-21 in his first stint as the Louisa County head coach. That tenure was highlighted by a state runner-up finish in 2006.

Eight years later, Fischer is drawing some inspiration from that playoff run. In 2006, the team's motto was "football is our business." This year, as the Lions look to rebound from a 3-7 season, the motto has become "back in business."

"We joked around and we said football is our business, now let's say 'hey, we're back in business.' Let's get to work, let's knock it off and get after this thing a little bit," Fischer explains. "It's just kind of a play on the '06 season. We thought it would be fun, little bit of cocky and arrogance, and have fun with it."

"We're trying to build a business," Townes said. "Everywhere we go, away games, home games, it's going to be strictly business. We just come out here and we work hard and just do what we need to do."
