Former Virginia linebacker Clint Sintim is now an NFL free agent.
The New York Giants announced Thursday that they had waived Sintim after he failed a team physical. Sintim had been with the Giants since they selected him in the second round of the 2009 draft.
Sintim played in 24 games in his first two seasons with the Giants before tearing the ACL in his right knee in December 2010. Sintim re-injured the knee last preseason, forcing him to miss the entire 2011 season. He had been on the Giants' "physically unable to perform" list this summer.
