Former Cavaliers Finding Success on eGolf Tour

The game of golf is an individualized sport. Players are on their own, with no teammates to fall back on.

A pair of former Cavaliers are as close as you can get to having teammates on the road, however.

Bruce Woodall and Will Collins are Virginia alums who have known each other since their junior golf days in their native North Carolina.

The two are now successful pros on the eGolf Tour and their friendship has remained strong.

"We normally play practice rounds together, talk all the time, try to feed off each other, give each other feedback or confidence," Woodall explained. "It's great having such a close friend out on tour and being able to learn from him, motivate each other."

"Yeah it's nice because there's not a big support system (on the road)," Collins added. "So it's nice to have someone pulling for you because I wouldn't say you have a lot of friends necessarily, but you have some and so it's nice to have that sort of close-knit group."

The duo were back in the area this week at Spring Creek Golf Club in Gordonsville for the Spring Creek Classic. The event marked the midway point in the 2013 eGolf schedule.

It also marked Woodall's first career win on the tour. He beat Mikel Martinson in a sudden death playoff to win the title.

"Oh it's awesome," Woodall said after the win. "I had a few top fives there in a row and was just staying patient and hoping that I keep getting chances."

While Collins would have liked to been in Woodall's position atop the leaderboard, he was still happy to see his good friend win.

"Yeah we talked after he got done and just said 'congratulations' and I was happy for him. He works really, really hard and it's nice to see something good happen for him."

The two are hoping to work their way up the pro circuit ladder, from the eGolf Tour, to the Web.Com Tour, all the way to the PGA Tour, where former Cavaliers Steve Marino and Ben Kohles are regulars.

"You know it's always fun to see your friends and kids you've played with in school do well and you wish them all the best but at the same time it makes you want to get out there that much more," Collins explained.

"Oh absolutely. That's the goal," Woodall added. "We look forward to it everyday."
