Former 'Hoo Reynolds Hopes to Stay with O's

The Baltimore Orioles have declined their $11 million option on infielder Mark Reynolds. Now the team has until the end of November to decide whether to offer the former Virginia baseball player a new contract.

Reynolds hit .221 with 23 homers and 69 RBI for the Orioles last season. Fifteen of his homers came during the season's final two months, helping Baltimore reach the playoffs for the first time in 15 years.

Since his option wasn't picked up, Reynolds will get a $500,000 buyout from the team, and he remains under club control through the arbitration process. Reynolds told the Baltimore Sun on Wednesday that he hopes to stay with the Orioles.

"I love playing in Baltimore. I have a lot of friends on the team. I love playing for [manager] Buck [Showalter] and I love being in the city," Reynolds said. "Hopefully, I’m in a win-win situation here so that if they do want me back, hopefully we can work something out and I’ll be back playing for Buck and the O’s."
