Former Fork Union quarterback Christian Hackenberg is in line to get some early playing time at Penn State.
The true freshman was listed as a co-starter at quarterback on the latest depth chart released by Penn State Monday morning, just five days before the team's season opener against Syracuse. Sophomore Tyler Ferguson is also listed as a starter at the position.
Both quarterbacks would be making their Penn State debuts on Saturday. Hackenberg arrived in Happy Valley this summer, while Ferguson -- a junior college signee -- practiced with the Nittany Lions this past spring.
Hackenberg is coming off an all-state senior season with the Blue Devils, in which he threw for 2,144 yards and 22 touchdowns, and led Fork Union to the VISAA Division 1 state title game.
Hackenberg initially committed to Penn State in February 2012, and he signed with the program this past February. He was regarded as a five-star recruit by 247Sports.com, and ranked the top quarterback in the country in his class by ESPN.com.
