Joe Harris set the tone early for the Virginia basketball team on Tuesday, leading the Cavaliers to a 73-55 win at home over in-state rival Virginia Tech.

Harris hit a trio of three-pointers in the game's first four minutes, and finished with a career-high 26 points. Harris is the first Virginia player to score at least 20 points in three straight games since Sylven Landesberg, three seasons ago. He also matched a career high with five three-pointers.

Virginia extended its winning streak at home to 14 straight games, the longest in John Paul Jones Arena history. The Cavaliers also improved to 8-3 in the ACC for the first time since the 2006-07 season.

Virginia Tech senior guard Erick Green -- who entered the game as the nation's leading scorer, averaging 25-3 points per game -- was held to just one point in the first half. Green finished with 22 points, but was the only Tech player to score in double figures in either of the Hokies' meetings with Virginia this season.

Akil Mitchell's 17 points for Virginia set a new ACC career high for the forward.
