After trailing by 11 with less than four minutes to play, the Virginia men's basketball team couldn't complete a comeback against No. 23 Duke, falling 69-65 at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Monday.
The 'Hoos took their first lead of the game on a free throw by Malcolm Brogdon with 37 seconds to play. With UVa leading 65-64, Rasheed Sulaimon hit a three pointer to give the Blue Devils the lead at 67-65, and Amile Jefferson hit two free throws to seal the win.
Duke opened the game on an 8-0 run and led by as many as 13 in the game. Sulaimon led all scorers with 21 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three-point-range. Rodney Hood added 14 for the Blue Devils and Jefferson finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Malcolm Brogdon led UVa with 17 points and hit all five free throw attempts. Joe Harris had 15 points and seven rebounds.
With the win, Duke improves to 13-4 on the season and 2-2 in the ACC. UVa is now 12-5 overall and 3-1 in the ACC. The 'Hoos begin a three game homestand on Saturday when they host Florida State at John Paul Jones Arena.
