Two weeks after giving up 59 points to a tough Oregon offense, the UVa defense shut out VMI in a 49-0 win at Scott Stadium on Saturday.
"We just wanted to come out this week and focus on ourselves, focus on getting better, focus on paying attention to the details and things like that, which we felt like we were able to do during the bye week," junior safety Anthony Harris said after the game.
VMI finished the game 1-for-16 on third down conversions, and the Cavaliers held the Keydets to 79 total yards of offense.
"This game, again with respect to VMI, was about us," said head coach Mike London. "The rushing yards very limited, the passing yards very limited, I just thought the defense played well, and continued to do the things that we talked about that we wanted to do early on."
"We felt like it was important to come out here and get a big win, and get the ball kind of rolling heading into this long stretch that we have," added Harris.
The 'Hoos road only gets more difficult, as they travel to Pittsburgh on Saturday for their first ACC game and first road game of the season. The Panthers won a shootout with Duke on Saturday, beating the Blue Devils 58-55.
"I see every opponent as I see the last one we played and the next one," said sophomore defensive end Eli Harold, who recorded a sack and two tackles against VMI. "I look at them all the same, a team trying to get in the way of us being successful. I just want to do everything that I can to benefit my team, and just cause havoc in the backfield."
